A joint-investigation by Lighthouse Reports, Bellingcat, Der Spiegel, ARD and Asahi TV has uncovered damning evidence that Frontex, the EU’s coastal and border guard agency, has been deliberately stopping people from reaching the EU via the Aegean.

According to the exposé – released today – Frontex has been complicit in the illegal, violent pushback of migrants and refugees in Greece. Yet, despite clear evidence of human right breaches, including leaked documents, as well as interviews with migrants and Frontex staff, the agency denies any involvement in such pushbacks.

As recently as July, Frontex executive director Fabrice Leggeri appeared before the EU Parliament’s civil liberties committee to say only one incident of pushback had...

MEPs must reject the European Parliament’s Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) report in its final vote after a Grand Coalition, led by right-wing EPP, undermined critical measures to support struggling local farmers and the environment.

By excluding critical voices during the negotiation process and compromising the voting process to deny alternative amendments from being considered, the...

Dear President Sassoli,

Late last night, it has come to our attention that key parts of the crucial vote on the CAP reform package have been moved forward from Wednesday to the voting session of today early afternoon. This decision is based on reasons unknown and inexplicable to us. Additionally, we learned that splits and separates were deemed unacceptable.

We can neither understand, nor...

The French Digital Minister Cedric O and the Dutch Secretary of State for Digital Affairs Mona Keijzer have just issued a joint position paper calling for European Union competition authorities to take "swift action" to curb the consolidation of market power by Big Tech corporations like Amazon--including potentially breaking the companies up.

The pandemic and lockdown have had major consequences in the Live Performance sector, as venues have been forced to fully close down and tours have been cancelled. This has had a huge impact on the economic stability of the sector as a whole, but also on individual workers, many of whom are freelance and self-employed, and on the large number of small and medium sized enterprises that operate in...

European trade union leaders representing over 12 million workers signed a letter today urging the European Commission to “open an investigation into Amazon’s potentially illegal activities against Amazon workers in Europe.” The effort comes on the heels of the tech giant’s recently exposed spying on workers for lawful union activities in Europe.&nbsp...

The European Commission’s new Migration Pact renounces the EU’s international obligation to uphold the rights of people in need.

Since 2013, thousands of people have died or endured violence, misery and tragedy in inhumane conditions due to the EU’s failed migration policy.

Yet, Margaritis Schinas and Ylva Johansson’s blueprint will put pre-entry border procedures and ‘joint returns’ at the...

How much will we really pay for the Covid-19 vaccine? How is public money being used? Why are all contracts between the Commission and pharmaceutical companies secret? Why should the results of heavily publicly funded R&D and public money used to advance agreements be owned only by the industry and not by the public? Should the vaccine be a public good?

These were just some of the...

The Left group in the European Parliament stands in solidarity with Airbus workers taking collective action to protest their possible dismissal.

Workers across Spain have gone on strike today as part of broader coordinated action. We fully support their demands to protect all jobs and to immediately halt the dismissals.

Airbus has announced that it intends to layoff a tenth of its workforce...

Commission President von der Leyen is in complete denial about the gravity of the moment as the EU grapples with its biggest recession ever and faces an existential crisis and moral reckoning, Left MEPs said about today’s State of the European Union speech.

As millions of Europeans struggle to make ends meet, as we face climate chaos and  humanitarian calamity at Europe’s...

Using Amazon as an example of how dominant online platforms use their vast market power to avoid taxes, squeeze small and medium-sized businesses, engage in price dumping and drag down labour conditions, UNI Global Union and UNI Europa submitted a sweeping set of recommendations to the European Commission to ensure that the Digital Services Act (DSA) protects workers’ rights and upholds the...
