Peoples WorldJust less than half of Americans, mainly white middle and upper income earners, chose this election to express their allegiance to the right-wing populist, scapegoating, angry, and fearful message that Trump peddles. America is no longer the exception to the wave of white nationalist economic populism that has swept through many democracies. It is time to ask our friends in Italy, in Britain, in India, in the Philippines, and in other countries where hard-line, far right-wing candidates or issues have won: how can we work together across oceans and continents to prevent the further rise of right-wing populism? The mirror that yesterday’s vote count held up reflects a divided electorate and an even more deeply divided society.

natopiss170NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg congratulates US President-elect Donald Trump: »I congratulate Donald Trump on his election as the next President of the United States. And I look forward to working with President-elect Trump. We face a challenging new security environment, including hybrid warfare, cyber attacks, the threat of terrorism. US leadership is as important as ever. Our Alliance has brought together America’s closest friends in times of peace and of conflict for almost 70 years. A strong NATO is good for the United States, and good for Europe.

NATO has responded with determination to the new security situation. But we have more work to do. And I look forward to meeting Mr. Trump soon, and welcoming him to Brussels for the NATO Summit next year to discuss the way forward.«

WikileaksIn recent months, WikiLeaks and I personally have come under enormous pressure to stop publishing what the Clinton campaign says about itself to itself. That pressure has come from the campaign’s allies, including the Obama administration, and from liberals who are anxious about who will be elected US President.

On the eve of the election, it is important to restate why we have published what we have.

Demonstration on Saturday, the 29th of October 2016, beginning is 3 pm at the Pariser Platz, Berlin in front of the US-Embassy

Demonstration in BerlinOver 500 years after the brutal conquering of Inca and Aztec territories, 125 years after the last military massacre on Native Americans in the USA, and over 40 years after the violent oppression of a revolutionary movement in the USA by the so called Counter-Intelligence-Program (COINTELPRO), the worlds longest history of genocide and colonialism cannot be considered having ended. Murder, forced displacement, judicial persecution, insufficient medical treatment, habitat destruction, constrained poverty, and assimilation are only some measures that are constantly used against indigenous people.

Never TrumpThe rats are quickly jumping from the sinking ship of Trump. But not so fast, dear Republican senators and congressmen. Trump may have verbalized his misogyny, sexism and abuse of women into an open microphone, but over the past decades you - YOU - have LEGALIZED it. He may talk of "grabbing" sexual organs, but YOU have created laws that legally grab control over women's bodies. Trump may brag about his power over women; YOU, the Republican legislators (and your backers, the Christian Right and rich businessmen), have made sure women aren't paid the same as men, don't have paid maternity leave, or can't get easy access to birth control.

Never TrumpDonald Trump never actually wanted to be President of the United States. I know this for a fact. I’m not going to say how I know it. I’m not saying that Trump and I shared the same agent or lawyer or stylist or, if we did, that that would have anything to do with anything. And I’m certainly not saying that I ever overheard anything at those agencies or in the hallways of NBC or anywhere else. But there are certain people reading this right now, they know who they are, and they know that every word in the following paragraphs actually happened.

Never Trump!I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I gave it to you straight last summer when I told you that Donald Trump would be the Republican nominee for president. And now I have even more awful, depressing news for you: Donald J. Trump is going to win in November. This wretched, ignorant, dangerous part-time clown and full time sociopath is going to be our next president. President Trump. Go ahead and say the words, ‘cause you’ll be saying them for the next four years: “PRESIDENT TRUMP.”

Bernie 2016After a small-margin loss in the Nevada Democratic caucus, presidential candidate Bernie Sanders seems to have flipped his loss to a win against his opponent Hillary Clinton as part of state-level county conventions, the second stage of the caucus leading up to the party’s convention in June, local media reported Sunday.

The final delegate count from all the county conventions across the state was 2,964 for Sanders and 2,386 for Clinton. Now the Sanders campaign will send 1,613 delegates and Clinton campaign will send 1,298 to the state convention in May.

Screenshot: CNNAs a result of the 1,681 caucuses held across the state last night, there will be about an equal number of Clinton delegates and Sanders delegates at the 99 county conventions to be held in March. These conventions will decide who will go to the state convention in June, which will in turn decide who goes to the National Democratic Convention to be held in Philadelphia in July. Sanders garnered 695 delegates and Hillary got 699. In six caucuses, the voting was so close that the number of delegates per candidate was decided by a coin toss.

Foto: Max Goldberg (CC BY 2.0)The US filmmaker Michael Moore published today an official letter, announcing his endorsement of Bernie Sanders. The »Democratic Socialist« runs at the Primaries of the Democratic Party for the presidential candidatorship in this year's elections. We reproduce the letter of Michael Moore:

My Dear Friends,

When I was a child, they said there was no way this majority-Protestant country of ours would ever elect a Catholic as president. And then John Fitzgerald Kennedy was elected president.

It's been six long years since the humorist provocateur Michael Moore has made a film. Those anticipating his next offering were worrying that this highly popular progressive filmmaker might have retired from the screen. It would make sense considering the changes in his personal life. A divorce from Kathleen Glynn, his longtime partner and producer of many of his film projects, both TV and screen, must have taken a personal and professional toll on his life. There's his immersion in Traverse City arts with the production of a brilliant progressive film festival, restoration of theaters and a comedy festival that surely took immense time from his life. And then there's the fact that he's become one of the richest filmmakers around and probably doesn't need much more money.
