On July 23, B’Tselem first reported on the police harassment of residents of the Isawiyah neighborhood in occupied East Jerusalem. The campaign, which began in June, included daily law enforcement and collective punishment raids, ostensibly in response to stone throwing. During one of the raids, 21-year-old neighborhood resident Muhammad ‘Abeid was killed. Although the harassment has abated somewhat since the beginning of the school year, it still continues at varying levels of intensity.

Following Turkey’s military invasion of Syria on Wednesday, October 9, the International Relations Committee of the Communist Party of Israel (CPI), released the following statement:

“With the blessing of the US imperialism, Turkey has launched new military operations in northern Syria against the country’s people. This latest invasion is a blatant and flagrant violation of international law and the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria. Turkey’s invasion comes at a time when a glimmer of hope had appeared for the termination of the long bloody war.

SANASyrian Arab Army units began moving north to confront Turkish aggression on Syrian territory, SANA’s reporter in Hasaka said on Sunday.

Upon the announcement of this news, the people of Hasaka began celebrating in the neighborhoods of the city, welcoming this move to confront the Turkish aggression.

Video footage now shows us another horror perpetrated by U.S. imperialism and its local allies.

Civilian deaths, as well as those of military personnel, are now mounting as the blitzkrieg unleashed by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan of the right-wing “Justice and Development” Party (AKP) penetrates deeper into northern Syria, with the stated intention of destroying Kurdish forces there and then settling Syrian refugees, currently  stranded in Turkey, in the area.

Britain's Communists have condemned the Turkish invasion of north-east Syria as a 'blatant and barbaric violation of Syria's national sovereignty'. Carol Stavris told the Communist Party of Britain's political committee that such a flagrant breach of international and humanitarian law cannot go unchallenged.

More support needed for democratic forces

German MEP Özlem Alev Demirel has laid out the steps in which the European Union must follow in response to the Turkish army’s violation of international law by invading Syria.

From the early hours of Wednesday, the people of the region are witnessing a new imperialist crime with Turkey’s new invasion in Syria.

An invasion that began with the blessings of the USA and takes place within the context of the imperialist competitions in the region. This development in itself reveals the false arguments of the Greek Government on the occasion of Pompeo’s visit to Athens, where they attempted to present the USA-NATO as «Pigeons of Peace». Before the ink dries, it is revealed the magnitude of the risks for the Greek people because of the Greece-USA Mutual Defense Cooperation Agreement – MDCA.

Thousands of Arab-Palestinians in Israel held protests on Friday, October 4, just a day after holding a general strike over the wave of deadly criminal violence unaddressed by police within the their communities.

It is time to form a government that responds to the demands of the people

For the fourth consecutive day, crowds in Baghdad and many other provinces and cities took to the streets, continuing their legitimate protest movement and confronting live bullets and other forms of excessive violence that led to the death of dozens of martyrs and hundreds of wounded among demonstrators and security forces.

The 13 members of the Knesset elected from the Joint List boycotted the inaugural swearing in of MKs to the 22nd Knesset held yesterday (Thursday, October 3) in Jerusalem. The lawmakers’ boycott came as part of Thursday’s general strike called for by the High Follow-Up Committee for Arab Citizens of Israel’s. Joint List leader MK Ayman Odeh (Hadash) said: “Dozens of people murdered since the beginning of this year are not just victims of violent crime; they are victims of the apathy of the government and law enforcement authorities.” “It is not acceptable that we continue burying our children while the rest of the MKs take celebratory photos in the plenum,” Odeh added. “We will join our constituents in demonstrations across the country.”

The widespread nationwide popular protests that are continuing since they began on 1st October 2019, have served as a real warning to the government and dominant political forces, that are responsible for the tragic situation in the country and the dire living conditions of the citizens, especially the poor, toilers and youth, and its repercussions demonstrated by the current state of unprecedented anger. This makes it an urgent matter that sweeping fundamental reforms should be taken at various political, economic and social levels. The government is therefore today facing the moment of truth in the full sense of the word, and it must take urgent serious and just measures, which the people are expecting and demanding.
