The TV station »Russia Today« quoted the ministry as saying in a statement that the plane hadn’t violated Turkish airspace, and it was at an altitude of 6,000 meters. The two pilots managed to eject from the downed jet, the ministry said, adding their fate is still unknown. The Kurdish news angency Firat stated that the jet has been downed by Turkish F-16's near a refugee camp in Yamadi village in the coastal province of Latakia on the Syrian side, which is located across Yayladağ district of southern Hatay province.

The Chief of the General Staff of Syrian Army and Armed Forces, Gen. Ali Abdullah Ayoub said following the Russian airstrikes against the »Islamic State« (IS) and other terrorist organizations, which have reduced the combat capabilities of the terrorists, the Syrian armed forces have taken the reins of military operations and formed well-armed and equipped human forces, mainly the »4 th Corps Storming«.

In a statement on Thursday, Gen. Ayoub announced that the Syrian armed forces started today a large-scale assault aimed at uprooting the gatherings of terrorists and expelling them from the areas and towns which have been suffering of the woes and crimes of terrorism.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stressed that the Russian warplanes only target the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria “ISIS” and other terrorist organizations in Syria. In a press conference in New York Wednesday, Lavrov said that Russia is conducting strikes against the “ISIS” and other terrorist organizations because if it doesn’t do that the flow of fighters into Syria will increase, indicating that this decision came upon a request by the Syrian Government.

Russia’s President Vladimir Putin reiterated that the only solution to the crisis in Syria lies in supporting the effective government structures and helping them in fighting terrorism.

Putin has recently called for establishing a wide coalition against terrorism in cooperation with the Syrian government, stressing that Russia continues supporting Syria militarily to that effect and in accordance with the military contracts signed between the two countries.

Thank you for giving us all the opportunity to talk to you during this very critical phase of the crisis in Syria, where there are many questions that need to be addressed on where exactly the political process to achieve peace in Syria is heading, what’s the latest developments on the fight against ISIL, and the status of the Russian and Syrian partnership, and of course the enormous exodus of Syrian refugees that has been dominating headlines in Europe.
