During a press conference offered to the media from the Yellow House “Antonio José de Sucre”, the Foreign Minister of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Jorge Arreaza, announced that given the refusal and disinterest of the United States government to accept Turkey as Protective State of diplomatic premises, assets and interests of Venezuelans in their country, Americans residing in Venezuelan territory can not enjoy protection.

This after the agreement of protection proposed between both countries, which included Switzerland as a State protecting the assets of the United States in Venezuela, and the Republic of Turkey as a protective State of Venezuela in the United States, all framed in the provisions of Article 45 of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.

Under this proposal, the Republic of Turkey would protect our buildings, archives and Venezuelan nationals in US territory, however, given the refusal of the United States there is a breach and violation of the Vienna Convention.

The FM also emphasized that the United States refuses to comply with the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations. “That article has been completely violated from beginning to end, in literal A, the receiving State will be obliged to respect and protect, even in the case of armed conflict, the premises of the mission as well as its assets and archives, the B, The sending State may entrust the custody of the premises of the mission, as well as its assets and files, to a third State acceptable to the receiving State, and the C, the sending State may entrust the protection of its interests and the interests of their nationals to a third State acceptable to the receiving State … (…) another bad news for US diplomacy”.

Given the breakdown of diplomatic relations announced on January 23, President Nicolás Maduro also expressed his willingness to continue attending the consular affairs of both countries through the establishment of an office of interests in Caracas and Washington, but no response was obtained due to the coupist interests of the United States government.

“This is not a decision of the Bolivarian Government, the United States is responsible, if they rectify and accept Turkey as a protective country of Venezuela, we immediately accept Switzerland”, said the People’s Power Minister for Foreign Relations.

Last March the international community witnessed how security forces from that country, supported by their own government, entered without authorization into the Venezuelan diplomatic headquarters in that country, an action that follows and directly attacks International Law and the Vienna Convention, a treaty that governs diplomatic relations worldwide.

On the other hand, the Venezuelan diplomat stressed that despite future illegal and coup actions, the Bolivarian Government will continue to bet on dialogue as a peaceful way to resolve conflicts in Venezuela and as an option for mediation with other countries.
