On a warm summer day with a cool breeze blowing gently from the Aegean shore, cars were shuttling between the hotel and the airport. Each vehicle had a couple of attendants, one Turkish and one Greek, greeting the representatives from various countries, who were arriving to attend a meeting that would take place on the next day, the 8th of June. It was reminiscent of Izmir of a century ago - an ancient and prosperous trade city of the East Mediterranean, mostly populated by Greeks and Turks.

But the scene was not only a nostalgic reminder of the past. The young members of the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) and the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) were running around as part of a deliberate endeavor to recuperate certain moments and qualities of the past.

tkpZehra Güner Karaoğlu, the İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality candidate of the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) in the local elections of March 31, handed over her waiver of candidacy for the revote on June 23.

Along with Karaoğlu’s waiver, one more bill was given to the local election board with the signature of her party, the TKP.

tkpTurkish election authorities moved to block Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) candidate Mehmet Fatih Macoglu from taking office as mayor of Dersim today on “security” grounds. The Supreme Election Board (YSK) did not give any explanation for the decision which it said was based on the “security problem today.”

Mr Macoglu said: "No explanation was made. They said, ‘We don’t approve giving the mandate today because of a security problem and we don’t want to explain that’.” Turkey’s first ever communist municipal mayor said the decision was “like a joke” but added the hold-up would “not put a spoke in our wheel” and the situation would be approached with “maturity and calm.”

The Initiative of Communist and Workers' Parties of Europe will come together in a meeting called by the Communist Party of Turkey in İstanbul on February 16-17.

According to the new portal soL, the Initiative of Communist and Workers' Parties of Europe which continues its activities since 2013 will hold a meeting in İstanbul on February 16-17 with the call of the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP). The meeting will be held at a time when the 100th anniversary of the founding of Comintern and will host 18 parties of the Initiative. Titled as 'Struggle for Communism: 100 Years of Political Heritage', the meeting will be in the form of a history conference.

Under the leadership of Nakliyat-İş Union, Uyum-Makro Market Workers, who have been struggling for their extorted severance allowances, have concluded their great struggle with a big victory!

As we informed the class organizations and public step by step, Migros had bought 73 Uyum-Market stores that belonged to Makro Market for 105 million TL. In this process, 1500 workers were transferred to Migros and immediately after the acquisition; they were fired without getting their severance allowances. After the sale of the Uyum Market stores, Makro Market announced a bankrupt, conducted some meetings with its claimants and made some payment schedules. However, they did nothing when it came to the payment of the workers!

Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) condemns the Turkish government’s imprisonment of Max Zirngast, an Austrian socialist, journalist, and student. Zirngast — who has written for a variety of publications, including the American socialist magazine Jacobin — was arrested on September 11 by Turkish anti-terror police at his apartment in Ankara along with three other activists. He is still being detained.
